Assistant Professor of Political Science
Department of Political Science and Geography

Lauren Perez did her doctoral work at the University of Pittsburgh.  Prior to that, she obtained a BA at Bucknell University, and an MA through James Madison University's European Union Policy Studies program in Florence, Italy.  Her research focuses on legislative politics in multi-level settings, such as the European Union.  In part, it tests how well concepts and theories from comparative politics apply in more globalized and internationalized settings.  It also tests how factors from one level interact with legislatures at another level.  For example, her dissertation and ongoing book project focus on how national legislatures in EU member states involve themselves in European Union policy-making.  Some of her other research examines how national level factors and politics affect politics at the European institutions, such as the Council and the European Parliament.
